Books & Brews

If you’re looking for a casual place to try some craft beer then Books & Brews is for you. With the tagline “a place for people without a place” they’ve achieved the perfect balance of, well, books and brews.

The concept all started in 2014 when the first location, now called the “Mothership,” opened on the Northside near 96th and Hague. Since then 8 more locations have opened all over Central Indiana including Zionsville, Broad Ripple, Mass Ave, Carmel, Brownsburg, Speedway, Muncie and on the Southside.

It’s easy to see why the idea has caught on so quickly. At Books & Brews, they are passionate about disconnecting people from technology and reconnecting them with each other. A variety of games, books and more can be found at each location.

The bookstore in the front offers a variety of gently used books for sale at an affordable price, and 10% of all the proceeds go to the charity IndyReads.

Now, on to the brews! All of their beers are cleverly named after popular book titles such as the Nancy Brew, Charlie and the Chocolate Stout, Cream and Punishment, The Stout of Monte Cristo and more.  I’m a big fan of the chocolate stout and the Nancy pale ale, and luckily they offer cans to take home.

Fortunately they also have a variety of food options including the BEST pretzel and beer cheese around. I recommend trying a flight with an appetizer and one of their toasted sandwiches.

Bonus – they’re all served with chips from Broad Ripple Chip Co. My favorite is the “Babe” pulled pork sandwich.

I’ve also been in for a Star Wars trivia night, and man do they know how to do trivia. Overall, I highly recommend stopping in a Books & Brews’ location near you for some great food, books, trivia, live music or even just to grab a drink.
